A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Thunder Bay District Jail and Correctional Centre.
The local health unit says two people associated with the facilities have tested positive.
Officials say they are working with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, and will expand precautions as needed while assessing the situation.
This comes as inmates at federal prisons across Canada will begin receiving vaccinations against the coronavirus on Friday.
The Union of Canadian Correctional Officers says the pilot project will see prisons receiving 1,200 doses of the vaccine, enough to vaccinate 600 inmates with the required two doses.
It’s not known where the vaccination rollout will occur.
