The Northwestern Health Unit is warning the public of an increased risk of COVID-19 in the Rainy River District.
There are now more than ten active cases in the Municipality of Rainy River, connected to an outbreak at a seniors’ apartment building in the community as well as family gatherings and group activities.
The rise in case numbers and spread is concerning to Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health at the health unit.
“The risk of transmission of COVID-19 is higher in the Rainy River area. We’ve seen the devastation that COVID-19 has brought to other areas in Canada, and we need our residents to do everything they can to prevent the spread,” says Dr. Kit Young Hoon.
“Now is the time to act and follow the guidelines of the province-wide shutdown. Do not gather with people outside of your household, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay at least 2 metres apart from anyone you do not live with. If you have any symptoms of COVID- 19, self-isolate immediately and arrange to get tested at your local assessment centre,” she says.
