Some financial support is coming to help more students learn from home in the new year.
The Support for Learners program is being expanded to include those aged 13 through Grade 12.
Parents or guardians will receive a one-time payment of $200 per eligible student to help offset education expenses.
Minister of Education Stephen Lecce says from January 11 to February 8, secondary school students and their parents will be able to apply online at www.ontario.ca/supportforlearners
Lecce says “Signing up online is efficient. It’s secure. The monies should be deposited directly into your accounts within roughly two weeks following verification.”
The money will help families purchase computer equipment, tablets or other items needed for virtual instruction.
Lecce notes the government has provided over $900-million in direct financial education support since the start of the pandemic.
