There is increased COVID-19 activity in the Rainy River District.
The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting five new positive cases Tuesday bringing the total number of active cases in that area to 7.
All other districts are COVID free.
Follow up with those involved and their contacts is underway and anyone identified will be notified directly.
Riverside Health Care says of the cases identified, one case is in Fort Frances.
Six others are in the town of Rainy River.
That’s prompted regular testing of staff and residents at Riverside’s long-term care facilities with a more focused approach as LaVerendrye Hospital.
New visitor restrictions have also been implemented at the long-term care homes, that includes all general visits now cancelled until further notice.
There have been 143 cases in the northwest since the start of the pandemic, 23 in Rainy River.
Ontario is reporting 2,202 cases today.
The Health Unit reminds all residents to assume the virus is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, good hand hygiene, not touching their face, and wearing a mask in
enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge.
Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested.
