The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is seeking public input on its first draft of the 2021 Operating and Capital budgets.
The deadline to provide feedback is noon Friday.
Treasurer Carly Collins says the fiscal document right now calls for a 3.5% tax increase, with $331,000 needed to complete capital projects.
Collins says the challenge for staff is Municipal Property Assessments won’t be increasing next year.
She stresses “This is huge for our Municipality with the fact that assessments are not changing. Every year the Municipality brings in anywhere from $350,000 to $400,000 extra in taxation revenue due to assessment changes alone.”
Collins says “That assessment is not occurring and that’s what’s making it very difficult this year for staff to put their budget together. I feel everyone has done a magnificent job.”
Collins adds “I feel that the management team has done their due diligence, very carefully, with putting this budget together.”
Members of the public who wish to make comments on the draft budgets are invited to budget2021@siouxlookout.ca
