The Thunder Bay district is now officially in the province’s Orange or Restrict level in its COVID-19 framework.
That means some new restrictions and public health rules starting Monday.
Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit, Dr. Kit Young Hoon says they don’t have the power to limit travel, though they don’t recommend it.
“We are looking closely at what’s happening in Thunder Bay and I am going to be following up. I regularly communicate with the Medical Officer of Health in Thunder Bay to get a better sense on what’s happening there and if travel recommendations need to change.”
She says the province is recommending that non-essential travel to orange or red level areas is not recommended.
Currently, the Northwestern Health Unit is in the Yellow, or Protect risk level.
There are 12 active cases in our region.
Two new cases were reported Monday in the Thunder Bay region.
A total of 110 people in the district have active cases right now.
This comes as Ontario confirms another record-breaking jump in new cases, with 1,924 announced today.
