Some help in the Fall Economic Statement for the beleaguered tourism industry in northern Ontario.
Associate Finance Minister Mona Fortier says economic development agencies, including FedNor, will be getting more money in the coming year.
She says they can expect $500 million more this year and 25% of that will go to our tourism industry.
Fortier also addressed the nearly $400 billion deficit and the government recovery plan.
She says the spending was necessary to ensure Canadians and the economy can not only survive, but eventually thrive.
“How will we recover? Well we just put a down payment down by explaining to Canadians that we will develop a stimulus package representing up to $100 billion which represents 3-4% of GDP.”
Fortier says the document includes some funding for the airline industry.
“We announced $1.2 billion to support airports and regional airlines. We will continue to make sure that we provide support for those very affected sectors.”
