As Dryden begins work on a police costing study, the initial costing for the OPP in Kenora is $6.38 million for 2021.
That’s an increase of almost $400,000 from this year.
Inspector Jeff Duggan says the amount is based on the number of calls for service.
“Our calls for service over the last four years have been steadily going up, except for this year,” explains Duggan.
“It’s too early to tell whether the numbers this year will stick to the next year and the next year after that. But it is a four-year rolling average for police calls for service.
So far this year there have been 13,708 calls for service, compared to 15,955 for the same period last year.
Duggan adds he will be looking into why police costs have gone up.
