The Northwestern Health Unit is reminding people to self-isolate after being tested for COVID-19.
The health unit says some new cases have been related to people waiting for their test results, as they’re aware of several people who resumed their regular routine because their symptoms improved.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says it’s crucial to stay home, prevent the spread of the virus and wait for a negative test result.
“It is important that anyone who has been tested stays at home and away from other people until their test result is known. COVID-19 can be spread to others even when an infected individual is feeling well, which is why physical distancing remains an important prevention measure.”
Anyone with symptoms is encouraged to get tested, but it’s important to self-isolate, even if symptoms improve.
The health unit also says if you have been notified that you are a close contact of a case, a negative test does not end your isolation period early.
The public is reminded to stay 2 meters away from anyone not within their household and to wear a mask or face covering when distancing is a challenge to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
