A partnership supporting northern Ontario First Nations is being extended.
Hydro One is once again teaming up with GlobalMedic, a registered charity specializing in disaster relief and aid, to provide an additional 3,500 kits of food and supplies to Indigenous communities.
Since the launch of the program more than 10,000 kits have been delivered.
GlobalMedic Executive Director Rahul Singh says it’s critically important to ensure First Nations communities are supported during the second wave of COVID-19.
Singh notes volunteers are now packing family kits that contain staple food items, reusable face masks and soap.
Hydro One President and CEO Mark Poweska says now more than ever, they have a responsibility to give back to the communities where they work and live.
He adds the partnership helps the immediate need for aid to help families navigate this challenging time.
This is part of Hydro One’s community investment program ‘Building Safe Communities’.
Ontario Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines; Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford adds “It is great to see Ontario companies and organizations pull together as we fight COVID-19 and support communities in the farthest reaching corners of the province.”
