Jim Shapland Jr. from Eagle River – Lake Superior Regiment – saw action in Europe, WW2.
While serving in Holland, he was in the same unit as Walt Clarke, his cousin from Dryden.
Jimmy used to tell a story about he and Walt brewing tea under a tarp in the rain when a jeep pulled up.
A Sergeant yelled “Clarke and Shapland – here’s a new replacement! Show him around,” Walt’s brother Bill got out of the jeep. They hadn’t seen each other in almost four years!
Jimmy passed away in 2014 in Kenora.
