A fun and great learning experience for kids at Ignace Public School.
Grade 7/8 science students recently had an opportunity to learn more about the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and its plan to store used nuclear fuel in Ontario.
The Ignace area is one of two communities in the running to be a host site for an underground repository.
The agency issued an egg drop challenge in a follow-up to a Used Fuel Transportation Testing presentation given to students
They were tasked with designing and constructing a container that would protect an egg from a five metre drop.
Out of the 17 eggs dropped, only three cracked under the pressure.
The purpose of the activity was to demonstrate how design and engineering of a package and a system of multiple barriers can protect the contents of a package in the event of an accident without any release of the contents into the environment.
