Local municipalities are being encouraged to apply for provincial funding to host COVID-19 friendly events.
The government is allocating $9-million through the new Reconnect Festival and Event Program.
The funding can be used to maintain public safety requirements and allow people to reconnect with communities through online, drive-through and other innovative experiences.
The province is encouraging event organizers to think of creative programs during the pandemic including virtual Remembrance Day ceremonies.
The money can help off-set various expenses such as programming and production, promotion, mobile applications, website development and implementation of health and safety measures.
Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Lisa MacLeod says COVID-19 has had an unprecedented and devastating impact on festivals and events and the money will support Ontarians as they reconnect and experience all their local communities have to offer.
The deadline to apply is December 1.
