The Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce sees some benefits for businesses and workers in the recent Speech from the Throne.
Spokesperson Charla Robinson says it promises to continue the wage subsidy program that’s helping many northern businesses.
“It was originally supposed to end at the end of this year, so businesses were getting a little concerned about not having that support, so that’s good news.”
Robinson says “she’s also hopeful about the promise to revamp Employment Insurance and how to help those workers who’ve been displaced to get new skills, so they have job opportunities in the COVID reality.”
A promise to create one-million jobs has also caught her attention.
Robinson says the pledge to add jobs through new infrastructure projects and government support will have a lot of benefits.
She expects the projects will include rolling out 5G networks in the Northwest, which will allow more people to work from home.
