The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is still waiting for the go ahead to resume field work in the Ignace area.
The pause button on the potential underground nuclear repository project has been hit here at home.
Director of Media and Stakeholder Relations Bradley Hammond explains what has been done to date.
“In northwestern Ontario we have successfully drilled a number of exploratory bore holes to help gain a greater understanding of local geology at depth.”
Hammond adds they have also launched an ongoing environmental baseline monitoring program.
“We’re asking people in the northwest to share information about the plants and animals and the environment around them so we can get a strong baseline understanding and get further information to ensure that we are protecting people and the environment.”
The Ignace area and South Bruce in southern Ontario are the two potential sites in Canada.
