The Minister of Indigenous Services admits he’s concerned about COVID-19 in Indigenous communities.
Marc Miller says fortunately, except for a few cases in northwestern Ontario, the incidence rate is very low.
“If there is any lesson that we’ve learned in the first wave. Vigilance across Indigenous communities has kept people safe. We don’t brag about statistics but the statistic numbers do bear that out. It doesn’t change the vulnerabilities that do exist but it does underscore what vigilance needs to be maintained.”
Miller says we have to maintain safety protocols if we want to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
“Their is no magic keeping people safe. It’s vigilance. It’s all these public health measures that you’ve been so dedicated to putting forth and making sure people stay safe during these times.”
Recent cases have been reported in Sandy Lake, Pikangikum and Kasabonika First Nation.
