A Dryden resident is warning pet owners, after their family dog was attacked by a bear.
The incident happened Thursday, September 10 around 1:30pm in the family’s yard on Olson Landing Road across from Flying Club Road.
A couple was outside with their two dogs, when they noticed bear cubs run up a tree nearby.
Once they saw the cubs, the couple attempted to get their dogs in the house but a larger, what they assume, mother bear approached.
One dog was attacked, that has since received veterinary care for 5 puncture wounds.
The resident says their dog is at home on the mend, but someone else’s child or pet might not be so lucky.
The resident notes they’ve had a bear in their yard before that has knocked over barbecues and torn down bird feeders, but nothing like this close encounter.
Be Bear Wise Ontario says to be aware and to check your surroundings, before letting pets or children outside.
