The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has put aside roughly $1.6 million for COVID-19 related expenses.
The province is allowing boards to use reserve funds this year because of the pandemic.
Director of Education Sherri-Lynne Pharand says the money will be used to hire more staff.
Pharand says with over 800 students learning virtual, it’s not possible to provide all of the staffing and supports that are necessary for students.
She notes about 19% of their elementary students and 17% of high school students have chosen to learn virtually to start the school year.
