Although the forest fire season doesn’t officially end until October 31st, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is in wind down mode.
There are only two active fires in the region, one is under control and one is being observed.
The fire hazard is mainly low across the northwest with some pockets of moderate in the Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances sectors.
Meantime, local residents are still being asked to follow outdoor burning rules despite a low to moderate forest fire hazard across northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry reminds the public that fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no late than two hours after sunrise.
You should never leave a fire unattended and always have water and tools nearby to contain the fire at the site.
All yard waste, wood and other debris should be removed from the area.
