Residents in the Kenora riding overwhelmingly support the Conservative Opposition’s advocacy for gun owners, according to the results of a firearm survey sent out by MP Eric Melillo.
The survey, mailed out earlier this year, asked those in the Kenora riding if the MP was on the right track in standing up for law-abiding Canadian firearm owners.
The question received over 500 responses, with 93% of respondents indicating their support in the MP’s advocacy for firearm owners.
While MP Melillo says he was gratified by the overwhelmingly positive response, but he’s also not surprised.
“Many of my constituents are responsible firearm owners who use guns for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defence against dangerous wild animals,” Melillo explained. “Firearms are simply part of our way of life in Northern Ontario.”
Melillo says that his Party supports common-sense policies to crack down on crime. The Conservative plan includes support for police anti-gang and gun units, a CBSA Firearms Smuggling Task Force, youth prevention programs, increased access to mental health and addictions treatment, and tougher sentences for violent offenders.
“Criminalizing law-abiding hunters and sport shooters is not the answer to stopping crime,” Melillo concluded. “Conservatives have a plan to crack down on crime and criminals, while supporting the rights of Canada’s many legal gun owners.”
