Several local organizations are teaming up to distribute food hampers for Red Lakers in need.
Applications were done through KDSB and 160 families or individuals will be receiving a food hamper.
KDSB, Sysco, the Dryden Lions, the Dryden Rotary Club and other organizations have been working hard at the Dryden arena to unpack and organize food.
“When a town is in trouble in Northwestern Ontario, we all come together to help.”
That’s the feeling of Dryden Rotary Club’s John Carlucci. He says this effort is in place because there was a shortage of food.
“Sysco and KDSB purchased a bunch of food. What Rotary’s doing is we’re putting together the food hampers that will be distributed at camps or to individuals.”
Carlucci explains they have volunteer drivers ready to go distribute and there’s also a pick up point at the arena for those close by.
For those who have applied and are receiving a hamper, pick up is at the Dryden Arena at 4:30 pm at the rear entrance of Arena 1.
If you cannot make it to the arena, please call 1-800-461-5766. KDSB’s 800 number is available Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm.

The next steps are unknown, but if the need continues Carlucci says they will be there to help.
“The City has set up a monetary line. That helps a lot because with that money we’ll be able to purchase more food or more items that we need for the evacuees.”

KDSB staff will be on-site at the Dryden Memorial Arena through the weekend from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm for registered evacuees who continue to need information and assistance.
