As fire fighting teams wound down for the night, Wednesday proved to be better than expected on Red Lake Fire 49.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests issued a press release late in the day saying the fire had been stopped from advancing closer to the town or Highway 105
At the same time, those who chose to remain in Madsen are now without power as the fire consumed power lines feeding the village.
Fire fighters could catch a break late Thursday with rain expected that should continue into Friday.
Red Lake OPP are reminding evacuees it is too early to try to return, asking everyone to stay away while fire teams try to bring the fire under control.
