A total of 6,049 charges were laid on roads patrolled by Provincial Police during last weeks ‘Operation Safe Driver’ campaign.
The safety initiative targeted both commercial and non-commercial drivers.
Speeding dominated the offence categories among non-commercial drivers, with 3,687 charges laid.
OPP also charged 251 people with seat belt violations, issued 112 tickets for distracted driving and charged 85 people with impaired driving.
For commercial vehicles, 145 drivers were caught for speeding.
OPP issued 104 tickets for moving violations, charged 45 drivers for defective equipment and laid 21 speed limiter charges.
Officers took 19 commercial vehicles off the road during the campaign.
