While most provincial parks have reopened to camping and day use, a couple of area parks remain closed.
Ojibway Park in Sioux Lookout will not be opening this summer.
It’s a partner run park with Community Living Dryden-Sioux Lookout and officials say they tried to troubleshoot a way to open this year but due to delays and regulations regarding COVID-19, it wasn’t possible.
Those with reservations will be refunded.
Packwash Provincial Park near Ear Falls also remains closed.
It’s not known if the park will reopen in 2020.
The following is a statement from Ojibway Park posted on its Facebook page:
“We regret to inform the public that Ojibway Park will not be open this summer. It is closed for all use and the MNRF will be monitoring it. Community Living Dryden-Sioux Lookout and the local Superintendent of Parks for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry tried to troubleshoot a way to open this year but due to delays and regulations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to open. This is a great disappointment to us all because as a partner run park we enjoy giving back to the community and our visitors in this way. All seasonal lease deposits will be refunded by CLDSL. We have contacted all lease holders. Until the MNRF takes down the online booking site, please do not try to book a camp site. Those with reservations will be refunded.
We hope to have a full season next year and are planning towards that end.”
