Premier Doug Ford says the provincial and federal governments need to work together to get the help municipalities need during COVID-19.
Ford says $2.2-billion dollars in immediate Gas Tax funding promised last week was already in the budget and isn’t new money.
Ford notes Ontario gets about $813-million out of that fund to help all 444 municipalities in the province.
He adds “They have $13 billion of our money through payments. And I haven’t seen the $13 billion on transfer payments. I have no problem helping other provinces but you’re hard earned tax dollars, $13 billion of it, is going to the federal government. So we need their support.”
Ford notes it’s time to stop the finger pointing on who is responsible, stating “we are in this together.”
The Premier says he’s committed to work with the feds to get the help that communities need.
