It appears Ontario’s State of Emergency will be extended until Canada Day.
The government is expected to use its majority Tuesday to push the order to June 30th.
Premier Doug Ford says “At least that will hopefully get us over the hump per say. It’s another four weeks and we just want to make sure everyone is safe and healthy and we want to get the economy going.”
It was implemented on St. Patrick’s Day and the premier can’t say when it will be lifted.
“It all depends on the situation we are facing. If we are seeing that everything is moving in the right direction, numbers are going down, than we don’t need to (extend the order). But if we see that the movement hasn’t happened, than the option’s on the table.”
Ford says that doesn’t mean they can’t ease restrictions during the Emergency order.
“Four weeks is a long time so a lot of things can happen in the four weeks, especially if we see the numbers come down. We’ll be looking at other stages and again that regional approach. I want to get this economy going but I have to do it safely.”
Ford says they are working very aggressively on coming up with a plan to get the economy going based on the COVID-19 numbers.
404 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths were reported in Ontario on Monday.
