Another weekend has come and gone.
What do radio personalities do with their time off? Go on vacation to exotic places, host large expensive parties, go for a run across the lake in their large yacht or sailboat, buy a 3rd vehicle (let alone a 2nd)??
Uhhhh…..no. At least not this guy.
When I was younger and listened to the radio ‘gods’ (before I got into the business) I thought that they must live incredible Hollywood-type lives. Is that what you think as well?
Well here I am some 30 years later in the radio business and I’m still waiting for the ‘Hollywood’.
My recent days off were routine. My weekend consisted of spending time with my immediate family at home, physical distancing visits with my father-in-law and sister in-law’s family, 2 trips to the landfill, 2 (or was it 3) trips through my favourite coffee shop drive-thru and back home to do some chores. That’s it. What an extraordinary weekend!! Right?
You see I’m not so different than you. In fact I bet you did a lot more ‘exotic’ or at least fun things than I did this past weekend. I want to be just like you!!
I’m sorry to burst the bubble of ‘celebrity status’ for radio hosts.
My garbage stinks…..just like everyone else’s. Mine is just like yours.
I stink if I don’t shower at least every second day…..just like everyone else. I’m just like you. (Who am I kidding – I’m worse. Haaaaa!!)
Ohhh and there go my neighbors again with their large boat – off to their favourite fishing spot. The others off to their lakeside ‘second home’.
The closest I get to being on a yacht is in my tub with my battery operated My second home is sitting on my front lawn. My golden retriever has barely used it in eight years so I might as well…..and I will when I’m told I have to. I am well trained.
Anyway my point is I’m just a guy doing a thing. I’m like you. I’ve always felt that way….for some 30 years now. I really enjoy doing what I do without the perceived extras and ‘celebrity status’. Besides caviar looks pretty awful.
I’ll see you around soon. Maybe you’ll take me for a ride on your boat (yacht) or for a trip on your snowmachine.
We have to wait for winter for the sled ride?? Who knew.
Maybe I should just continue to be me and do what I do….
