The Northwestern Health Unit is strongly recommending that residents do not travel outside of the community that they live in, unless it’s for essential purposes.
The notice has been handed down by Dr. Ian Gemmill, the Acting Medical Officer of Health.
Dr. Gemmill says anyone who travels outside of their home community should self-monitor for 14 days, and self-isolate if symptoms develop.
He stresses anyone with symptoms can and should get tested for the coronavirus.
Dr. Gemmill says it’s important to follow physical distancing and hand hygiene health regulations.
Dr. Gemmill stated this week that travel within the region may have contributed to a COVID-19 case in Sioux Lookout.
For more information on testing, call the NWHU’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-866-468-2240.
