Minister of Health Christine Elliott says they are making great progress in their battle against COVID-19.
“The number of daily new cases is trending down. Our hospitals continue to maintain significant capacity. We are seeing an unmistakable decrease in the number of people needing ventilators or being admitted to Intensive Care Units.”
Elliott says “Ontario has become a leader in Canada in daily per-capita testing, having achieved over 19,000 tests in one day last weekend. Our government now has the confidence to start planning for the gradual reopening of our province, while continuing to monitor for changes and trends in the coming days.”
She adds “To ensure these early steps are a success, its never been more important for the public to continue to adhere to public health guidelines. Including avoiding contact with others outside of your household and maintain at least two metres between yourself and others. Where physical distancing is a challenge. Please wear a face covering or cloth mask to help stop the spread and protect against an increase in new cases.”
The government says the Chief Medical Officer of Health will closely monitor the evolving situation to advise when certain public health restrictions, including adjustments to social gatherings can be gradually loosened or if they need to be tightened.
