Registration is now being accepted for the Hockey Academy at New Prospect School.
The program starts at grade 4 and is offered in both the English and French speaking streams.
The curriculum was cut short this year due to COVID-19 shutdowns.
Instructor Brett Lobreau says previous hockey experience isn’t necessary.
“We offer skill based programming for a wide range of skill levels. Working with Hockey Canada. I’ve been a part of their Curriculum Committee and we’ve been designing for the last few months a curriculum that schools can use based on a different range of levels in kids hockey ability.”
Instructor Bill Reid says you don’t need your own equipment to join.
“Thanks to our local partnerships. Previous supporters of our program include Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Home Hardware, the Lions, Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs of Dryden.”
Reid says “Hockey Academy replaces physical education classes where students can focus on specifically building their hockey skills. They learn valuable sportsmanship and leadership skills. Through hockey skill development and team sportsmanship and leadership skills. Through hockey skill development and team sportsmanship they learn perseverance and commitment. Students also get to take part in fun and community building initiatives such as the Vermilion Bay Jamboree and the New Prospect School Dangler Cup playoff game.”
