A project that’s been in the queue since 2016 is finally proceeding in Dryden.
The City is moving forward with the rehabilitation of Van Horne Avenue from Duke Street to Victoria Street.
Manager of Public Works Services Blake Poole says Thunder Bay based Makkinga Contracting will commence work no later than June 8th, with a tentative completion deadline of August 21st.
“It’s a fairly tight schedule but they say they can stick to it.”
Poole says the $2,797,164 project includes road upgrades as well as rehabilitating watermains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers
He notes some of the underground infrastructure has reached the end of their life and is already causing problems.
The provincial government is is funding the work to the tune of $1.4-million.
Poole says there’s no taxpayer dollars being spent as the remaining portion is coming from Gas Tax funds and the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
Makkinga Contracting has done previous work with Dryden as they were involved in upgrades to Duke Street and Myrtle Avenue.
