Kenora MP Eric Melillo says more support is needed for small business owners and tourism operators.
Melillo says a number of people are falling through the cracks in COVID-19 aid packages.
The Conservative member says his party has some ideas.
“Removing requirements to have a business account. Whether it’s being a little broader in terms of how you can display revenue decline for some of the newer start-up’s. Also expanding to businesses who don’t have payroll. Maybe there just self-employed themselves, or their spouse or their children.”
Melillo stresses “There’s a lot of different businesses that fall into different categories that aren’t qualifying and we are going to continue to be their voice and hope that support gets to those who need it.”
He is pleased the federal government has extended the emergency wage subsidy beyond June.
“The subsidy is beneficial if you are operating and paying employees but there are many businesses who aren’t going to be able to do that and we have to be able to give them the support they need as well.”
