Local food bank usage has gone up during the COVID-19 crisis.
That’s the message from Sandra Poole, the Community Ministries Director for the Salvation Army in Dryden and Kenora.
Poole says they’ve been able to keep up with the demand thanks to help from Ottawa.
“We were the recipient of $10,000, which we were very, very thankful for. We did have very strict stipulations with what the money could be used for so we went out and we spent a huge amount of money solely on groceries.”
The money is a portion of the $5-million the Salvation Army received from the Federal Government at the beginning of April.
Poole stresses they’ve also received amazing support from local residents in both communities.
If you do find yourself in trouble with food security during the pandemic, you can call the Dryden Food Bank at 223-3881 during operating hours.
