The President of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs admits the future of junior hockey is unclear right now because of COVID-19.
Mike Sveinson says “Obviously there are some top down mandates coming from the Canadian government, Hockey Canada and from the Canadian Junior Hockey League that are going to tell us whether or not we have a season.”
Sveinson notes the team lost a lot of revenue last season with the playoffs being cancelled due to the pandemic.
“We missed out on the very, very most important games of our season and that’s the post-season. At that point all of our season tickets are no longer used. All the seats get paid for. And the attendance jumps by more than double.”
He is hoping for normal operations for the 2020-2021 season.
Sveinson made the comments Wednesday during a virtual meeting with Dryden Rotary.
