Gull Bay First Nation is building a new health facility to deal with COVID-19 in its community.
The First Nation reached six confirmed cases this week.
The temporary structure is expected to be finished by Sunday, and operating on Monday.
Along with the new COVID-19 centre, the First Nation is getting two more nurses, a nurse practitioner, and public health contagion officer.
Chief Wilfred King adds they are encouraged by the support they’ve received since five new cases were confirmed this week. He says along with help from other First Nations and organizations, businesses in Thunder Bay have offered to help by sending personal protective equipment to Gull Bay.
Officials ask anyone who wants to help to contact the First Nation’s Government office to coordinate their efforts.
The community of 1,375 people is around 200 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
