Charities across Canada could lose $9.5-billion with the loss of more than 117,0000 jobs over three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s according to new projections from Imagine Canada, a group which represents 170,000 charities.
Board member Nadine Duguay-Lemay says those numbers are even higher when you include other organizations in the “social goods sector” such as non-profits.
Duguay-Lemay says charities will need more support from the government, the private sector and individuals to stay afloat.
She is afraid that the whole sector will go dark, resulting in a loss of revenue, service disruptions, massive layoffs and a loss of services in local communities.
