Muskrat Dam and Neskantaga First Nations are locking down their communities because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both communities say outside visitors will not be allowed in without approval. They put the restrictions in place on Monday.
Neskantaga is declaring a state of emergency, and won’t allow any passenger flights in unless they are deemed essential or for emergency purposes.
It is banning social gatherings of more than two people, and ordering all residents to stay home as much as possible.
Muskrat Dam leadership says they will allow limited flights by Wasaya and North Star Air.
As part of what they call “extreme measures,” anyone who leaves the community will have to get approval by the Chief and Council and medical staff to return to the First Nation.
