More northern First Nations are restricting access to their communities in the wake of COVID-19.
Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug issued a notice to all airlines servicing it other than Wasaya Airlines, saying they want all non-essential flights in or out shut down.
The First Nation 580 kilometres north of Thunder Bay isn’t stopping flights for medical emergencies. Officials say they will work out a flight schedule with Wasaya that meets the community’s needs.
Meanwhile, Bearskin Lake First Nation has put itself into lockdown as of last night, saying nobody is to come into the community until further notice.
Wapekeka First Nation is preparing to respond to any cases of coronavirus by holding a lockdown drill from noon this Thursday to noon on Friday.
