There are no more excuses if you still aren’t social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic according to Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.
Dr. David Williams says it’s simple, they have told the public over and over again to self-isolate if you have symptoms, and if you don’t have symptoms stay away from others to prevent the further spread of the disease.
“You know what to do. You can prevent it. You can protect yourself. It’s not something that’s mysterious. We’ve told you the evidence and the data around that.”
Dr. Williams was blunt when stating “If you are not doing that (self-isolation) and you choose to do the social activities, I would say that’s foolish, perhaps a better word is ‘stupid thing to do’. I think it’s irresponsible and inappropriate for yourself, for your family and especially for the vulnerable populations here. If we do this consistently, over the next week or so, we think we can flatten the curve.”
Meantime, the Ontario Nurses Association is warning the provincial government of shortages of personal protective equipment.
Dr. David Williams says there have been reports of masks and glove shortages and they are working on addressing the issue.
“There are concerns in some areas that they don’t have that supply. We have a lot of groups working at doing that. We have obtained a number of promised orders from the Federal government, we’ve got some donated materials, so we are working on all fronts to make sure that is there.”
