Ontario’s health officials are confirming the province’s third death from COVID-19.
A man in his 70s from Barrie passed away, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe confirmed Saturday afternoon.
The man had close contact with someone who has since died of the virus, Yaffe notes.
There have been 377 people diagnosed in the province, including six who have since recovered and are no longer positive for COVID-19.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams says so far, no healthcare workers have tested positive. They continue to monitor the pandemic, including how new cases are cropping up in the province.
When asked about reports of people waiting up to four days to receive their results, Dr. Yaffe says to err on the side of caution and self-isolate while waiting for your results.
The health officials note they expect to see more cases crop up as the days go by. However, they are monitoring carefully for a sharp rise in cases like Italy experienced, and Williams says they have not seen signs of that yet.
