A full provincial budget won’t come down on Wednesday as originally scheduled.
Finance Minister Rod Phillips says he will instead be releasing an economic and fiscal update based on their understanding of the current situation.
“This update will include a realistic one year outlook based on current economic projections. It will provide certainty for hospitals, schools, municipalities and other partners for the years to come.”
Phillips adds “Our approach will include increased resources for the health care system, direct support for people, and action to protect jobs and our economy.”
“This is a responsible course that maintains confidence and stability, while providing the flexibility to respond quickly to changing events. We will build on our record of transparency with regular financial updates as the situation evolves.”
Phillips stresses challenges include the COVID-19 pandemic, volatile stock markets as well as uncertainty facing employers and workers.
