It is with sadness that the family of the late Margaret Lockyer announces her passing at the Brentwood Care Centre, Calgary, on March 17, 2020 at the age of 94 years.
Margaret was the 2nd daughter of Maud and Arthur Richardson of Winnipeg. She attended Wolseley Public School and Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1942. Margaret worked as a civil servant during WWII at #7 Depot Winnipeg. She married Flight Sergeant Roy Lockyer in 1945. Shortly after the war, they moved to Toronto in 1946 so that Roy could begin Optometric studies in Toronto. After Roy’s graduation in 1949, they moved to Port Arthur initially, and then to Dryden in 1953 where Roy practiced Optometry until 1979. During her time in Dryden, Margaret was involved with her family and St Luke’s Anglican Church and its activities, particularly the Anglican Church Women. After moving to Victoria B.C., they traveled to the UK, New Zealand, Australia, the USA as well as taking many visits to see their children and grandchildren.
Roy passed away in 1997. Margaret stayed on in Victoria for another nine years continuing to engage in various activities at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble. She spent time in her garden, and liked visiting family and friends. In 2006, Margaret moved to Calgary to be closer to her daughters.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Jocelyn of Calgary, and Pamela of Canmore; son, Brian (Catherine) of Dryden, grandchildren, Neil Cameron (Shannon), Sarah Cameron Quaid (Paul), Jonathan, Christopher (Roxanne), and Suzanne. She is also survived by her brother Tom (Margaret), and sister Muriel of Winnipeg, as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
