There continues to be a backlog of people in Ontario who need to be tested for the COVID-19 virus.
Medical Officer of Health, David Williams says, however, there is progress being made to help reduce the almost 3,100 which need testing.
“The federal government has acquired a large volume of test kits and they are forwarding that large volume to us…and with our satellite labs kicking into gear we will be able to move on any backlog,” says Williams.
Another challenge authorities are facing is how to test health care workers as quickly as possible so they do not get lost in the backlog as well as Indigenous people.
The medical officer explains they are looking at a priority list so they do not get lost in the test pile so “they can be expeditiously moved through because that doesn’t impact our response.”
Ontario has now topped the 250 mark in the number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. The Ministry of Health has identified 43 new cases since yesterday. None of them involve residents in northwestern Ontario.
The number could be a lot higher.
More than 10,300 tests have come back negative.
