Sadly, at the age of 78 Mervin passed away on March 3, 2020. Mervin was born on October 8, 1941 in Hamilton, Ontario and most recently residing in Dryden, Ontario. Mervin is survived by his wife Dot Brown; stepchildren Robert, Kimberley, Kenneth, and William, grandchildren, nieces, nephews; his brother Kenneth Brownlee of Hamilton, Ontario and his sisters Patricia Springall of Centreville, Nova Scotia and Beverly Brownlee of Nepean, Ontario. Mervin was predeceased by his parents, two older brothers, and a sister.
Mervin’s career was as a printer. His great love was to help his community especially young people. His most recent project was to assist in finding funding and land for the Sunset Community Centre for Dryden to help young people have a centre for activities. All his life Mervin was very community minded and in his younger years loved long distance cycling and organized many rides for young people, plus a lifetime in the Scouting Movement. Mervin was also involved with the Dryden & District Agricultural Society. When he made up his mind to help out he stayed focused and did all that he could to make a difference in his community.
Mervin was the caregiver of the family and always there to help out when called on to do so. He had a great sense of playfulness and a good sense of humor. Mervin played the guitar and he and his wife loved to go to jams where they sang together. Mervin and his wife were both avid quilters. He also loved fishing.
Mervin will be cremated and a celebration of life ceremony will be planned when family plans can be coordinated.
