Provincial Police in northwestern Ontario are warning of another scam making the rounds.
This time it involves house painting.
A caller requests their painters attend the home and are given the address and dimensions for the service.
The homeowner is requested to provide a deposit, much larger than first requested.
The painter is then asked to cash the cheque, keep the deposit amount, and wire the rest back or to another contractor.
Police say if something sounds suspicious, it probably is and not to give any personal information over the phone.
