Yesterday was just another day….wasn’t it?
Nope! Yesterday was a day that added another reason for me to keep living in Northwestern Ontario.
The day started out normal. Get up early, go to work, work and eventually get the youngest driven to school. Normal repetitive day. No big deal.
Yup. There’s the text. Michaela is ready to be driven to the highschool. On my way. Picked her up and our dog Dexter who like most dogs loves to go for a ride in the truck and have his head out the window! On our way now to Dryden Highschool.
Just another Wednesday morning when I should have had the garbage out on the curb waiting for pickup. Well I didn’t do my job….again. That’s ok because the fine people with the not so glorious job of picking up the waste always stopped anyway if Dexter was outside in the yard and would give him a treat. But wait…he’s not at home waiting in the yard….he’s with us in the truck.
As we travel closer to the Highschool on Casimir Avenue there’s the garbage truck stopped on the street making some pickups. Michaela urges me to stop. I said we must get to the school. We carried on – the garbage truck now several blocks behind us. We arrive at the school. Michaela gets out of the truck and is saying her goodbyes to me and the dog when…..here it comes….the big white truck barreling down the street toward us!! It looks like it’s on an urgent mission…like an ambulance on it’s way to help someone in crisis or a police car destined to stop a crime in progress. Maybe it was a crime I committed? Nahhhh.
Miss Michaela frantically starts waving her arms in the air like there was an emergency or something – urging the truck to stop?! I thought what the heck are you doing girl? These people have a job to do….they aren’t going to…….uhhhh……of course they did.
Long story short. Dexter got some treats. Michaela and I got our ‘smile of the day’ and the world was a better place. Would this have happened in a big city? I highly doubt it.
