Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce won’t say if back-to-work legislation will be considered to end strike action by teachers.
Public, Catholic and French language teachers all plan to walk off the job next Friday.
Lecce calls the joint walk-out “irresponsible”.
Lecce says he still wants a voluntary negotiated settlement.
He is calling on the unions to accept the appointment of an independent mediator.
Lecce says that’s a fair process to get a deal done.
He adds the education system has become one designed by and for the unions, instead of one that works for students.
We want a good deal for students that keeps them in class.
