Dryden has launched its first Habitat for Humanity Chapter and the public is getting an opportunity to learn more about the program.
Dianne Loewen and Sally Sipos were guests on the CKDR Morning Show today (Tuesday) to promote Wednesday’s public information session at the Centre starting at 6:30pm.
Loewen says “Whether you are a service group or a business in town that’s interested in learning how you can get involved and even more importantly perhaps you are a family that never thought home ownership could be a possibility for you. This is an opportunity to come out and learn how you might be able to make that happen.”
Sipos says “This program relies heavily on volunteers who work with partners to build homes that provide low income, working families with access to affordable home ownership.”
She adds “When we build a home, the partner family buys the home from Habitat for Humanity. Habitat extends a no down payment mortgage and then the family pays an affordable mortgage rate that’s geared towards their income.”
The free event tomorrow will help inform the public on what the community can do to make the dream a reality.
Loewen and Sipos will be on hand to explain:
-Understand how this offers “A HAND UP and not a Hand OUT”
-What it takes to get a build off the ground
-How the families are selected for a Habitat home
-What our community can do to make this a reality.
