The Executive Director of the Northwestern Ontario Sportsmen’s Alliance is applauding the government for working on bringing back the spring bear hunt permanently.
The province is currently consulting with residents about the issue and the cut off for providing feedback is February 18th.
John Kaplanis says the tourism industry lost millions of dollars when the hunt was cancelled in 1999.
Kaplanis says the spring hunt catered to non-resident hunters, bringing in big money for local economies on a yearly basis.
“As we know the current government is big on business and economy and they are trying to see this a plus for our northern communities and tourism industry and that’s a good thing.”
