Ontario’s Education Minister is expressing disappointment over on-going one-day walkouts by teachers.
Stephen Lecce says the government fully recognizes the negative impacts teacher union escalation is having on families.
Lecce is calling on union leaders to end the strikes, noting the job action is hurting students and causing financial hardship on parents.
He stresses they remain committed to negotiating deals that keep students in class, while providing financial support for families and child care needs.
Meantime, Lecce is concerned with a decision by teachers to refrain from completing report cards.
He says teacher union leaders are risking student success and preventing parents from seeing valuable information about their child’s performance in class.
Lecce believes parents want the government to invest in front-line services and not in compensation and other demands for some of the highest-paid educators in the country.
